(Jeff writes...) I'm overseas right now at a gathering of teams from many organizations working in Bible translation and related ministries among peoples of Asia's highlands. I captured one highlight of our gathering in the photo below: missionaries and local Christians from one highland country gathered around and prayed for missionaries and local Christians from another highland country. (I apologize that I had to black out parts of their faces. Some of the communities these people work in are hostile to Christianity and Bible translation.)
Every year we have more and more local Christians (who are also involved in Bible translation and related ministries) attend this gathering, and we're working to involve them more in leadership and giving presentations. This year for the first time we offered simultaneous translation for people from one country where the level of English isn't sufficient for them to participate fully in these kinds of meetings.
This coming week we're running two workshops: one focused on Scripture Engagement (helping communities that are receiving the Bible in their own language for the first time learn how to use the Bible), and one focused on Bible translation. In the translation workshop, eight consultants (I'm one of them) will be checking portions of Genesis in fourteen languages.
